What Will You Learn?

  • At the end of the term, students will be able to:
  • Compute the perimeter of regular and irregular polygon using units of measurement for length.
  • Reinforce the mental multiplication of two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.
  • Multiply numbers up to four-digits by any- one- or two-digit number. (Including Money)
  • Multiply a number by multiples of ten.
  • Use unit squares or centimetre grid to cover regions so as to determine the area.
  • Find the area of various objects and figures.
  • Associate symmetry with reflection.
  • Identify the mirror line of a reflection.
  • Identify the mirror line as being a line of symmetry.
  • Identify the possible line of symmetry in geometric shapes and objects.
  • Show the diameter of a circle as a line of symmetry.
  • Differentiate between the use of addition and multiplication, subtraction and division in problem situations involving whole numbers.
  • Select data relevant to a problem when finding its solution.
  • Identify and solve two-step problems.
  • Write mathematical sentences for two-step problems.
  • Calculate the mean, mode and median of a set of data.
  • Express fractional numbers with denominators 10 or 100 as decimals or vice versa.
  • Write money in decimal form.
  • Complete sequence of fractional numbers in decimal form counting by tenths or hundredths.
  • Compute with decimals including dollars and cents, using the four basic operations.
  • Add and subtract decimal fractions. (Including money)
  • Add or subtract mixed numbers, improper fractions and proper fractions with equal denominators.
  • Convert a mixed number to an improper fraction and vice versa.
  • Solve real world problems involving the addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators.
  • Describe location on a grid using rows and columns.
  • Make inferences about congruency when a shape or design is flipped, turned or slid.
  • Express simple sentences and word problems as algebraic expressions.
  • Write algebraic sentences for problems. Write one-or-two-step problems based on the information given in the story; then write the correct algebraic sentence and solve the problem.
  • Read and Interpret bar graph, line graph, picture graphs and pie charts.
  • Present data using pictographs and bar graphs.
  • Convert a pictograph into a bar graph and vice versa.
